Abstract
A 24 year old female patient presented with severe pain,foreign body sensation and redness in the right eye since 1 day.There was no history of foreign body or trauma to the eye,fever,sore throat or recent travel.On examination under slit lamp,a helminth parasite was noted in the superior fornix based conjunctival sac,5 mm away from the limbus.There were no signs of keratitis or uveitis.Under aseptic precautions surgical removal of the helminth was done under topical anesthesia.Complete hemogram and serological tests were done.Patient was advised topical steroid with antibiotic combination therapy every fourth hourly for a week and oral albendazole with ivermectin preparation once fortnightly.Patient gave history of relief of symptoms in the follow-up visits.After microscopy of the specimen,the helminth was found to be Dirofilaria of class nematodes.The definitive host is dogs and intermediate host is mosquitos and it can cause cardiovascular,pulmonary,ocular or subcutaneous infection.
