Abstract

Bechet disease is an idiopathic vasculitis affecting vessels of variable sizes characterized by recurrent oral aphthous ulcer, genital ulcers, uveitis and also has multisystem involvement. However central nervous system involvement is rare. It is associated with strong HLA-B51 positivity. Here we present a case of a 32 year old female with optic atrophy in left eye following an episode of optic neuritis for which she was treated with intravenous methylprednisolone . On further investigations MRI- brain was suggestive of demyelinating disorder /vasculitis and the patient was found to be HLA-B51 positive. There was no features suggestive of uveitis, genital or oral ulcers. Rheumatology consult was obtained and the diagnosis of neurobechets was made, patient was started on systemic steroids and azathioprine and the patient is now on follow up.
