Abstract

A 8 year old male presented with 9 month old history of reddish lesion in the left eye . Clinical examination revealed BCVA 20/20 . Anterior segment evaluation revealed 5 X 6mm pink juxta limbal mass temporally in the left eye with no feeder vessels. Rest of the ophthalmic examination was unremarkable. Excisional biopsy revealed dense sheets of lymphoid cells with monocytoid morphology . Immunohistochemistry showed large lymphoid cells which expressed CD20 & bcl2 with low Ki 67 proliferation index and negative for CD3,Tdt, CD10,bcl6,MUM1, CD5 and c-myc. A diagnosis of low grade marginal zone lymphoma was made .Detailed oncology work up for systemic spread was unremarkable. The child was advised periodic follow up as there was no evidence of systemic lymphoma.

Although conjunctival lymphoma is a very rare entity in children, it should be included in the differential diagnosis of a conjunctival mass especially when the clinical course is unusual.
