Abstract

Objective: A retrospective study of 11 patients with ocular adnexal injuries involving 13 eyes with respect to their clinical features, management and functional along with cosmetic outcomes is presented here.

Methods: Records of all the 56 ophthalmic patients visiting the emergency department from May 2020 to March 2022 were scanned and 11 patients with ocular adnexal injuries involving 13 eyes presenting to the emergency service were evaluated.

Results: Varied presentations of injuries ranging were seen like Eyebrows (n=3), Eyelid – upper(n=8), lower(n=6), canthi -lateral (n=5) & medial(n=2); Lacrimal System- canaliculiar- upper(n=1), lower(n=1); Orbital -Orbital compartment Syndrome (n=1), orbital fracture (n=1) & Intra orbital foreign body(n=1) & Optic Nerve Avulsion (n=1).

Conclusion: Early intervention led to better results & helped prevent infection & restoration of the integrity of the ocular adnexal structures led to a cosmetically preferable scar & better functional outcome.
