Abstract

Introduction- One of the most common causes of acquired blindness in children is ocular trauma. This study aims to determine the epidemiological profile and pattern of anterior segment ocular injuries in children in tertiary hospital of Vindhya region.

Method- Children under 18 years presenting with ocular trauma were enrolled in the study between April 2021 to November 2021. Various demographic and clinical parameters were studied including age, sex, distribution, mode of injury, type of injury and final visual outcome.

Result- The most commonly affected age group was 3-8 years involving 40% of children.

Males outnumbered females with a ratio of 3:1.

55% children presented with open globe injuries, 45% patients had close globe injuries

A significant association was found between visual outcome and the time interval between trauma and first consultation.

Conclusion- Children are vulnerable to ocular trauma and precautionary measures need to taken, under strict supervision
