Abstract
Background: Congenital cystic eye is a rare ocular and orbital malformation .Presenting a case of 19 year old female alongwith Clinical and histopathologic findings .
Methods: A 19 year old female presented with anophthalmos with cystic swelling of left lower eyelid present since birth . No other systemic abnormality was found. Imaging techniques revealed a complex irregular cystic lesion measuring 3.6×3.2cm seen in extraconal space in inferior aspect of left orbit upto the preseptal region into lower eyelid. The lesion shows heterogenous signal intensity in its posterosuperior aspect with hypointense areas and thin internal septations within on T2 sequence . The he mass was excised ,
Results: Microscopic examination of the cyst revealed irregularly shaped layers of fibrovascular tissue lined by neuroglial tissue with calcified bodies Structures like cornea could be identified
Conclusions: Congenital cystic eye is a rare primary developmental abnormality of the globe .
