Abstract
Aim:
To describe the clinical performance of 4 emerging EDOF intraocular lens technologies.
Method:
EDOF IOLs are compared with
monofocal IOLs on the basis of :
1. Corected visual acuity.
2. Distance corrected intermediate visual
acuity.
3. Distance corrected near visual acuity.
4. Contrast sensitivity.
Results:
1. Bilateral implanted small aperture design EDOF IOLs has better intermediate or near distance vision than contralateral implanted.
2. Diffractive Technis Symphony EDOF IOLs has worse contrast sensitivity than monofocal IOLs.
3. Contrast sensitivity at higher spatial frequencies was lower for patients with aspheric EDOF IOL than aspheric monofocal IOL.
Conclusion:
1. EDOF IOL technology will bridge the clinical short comings between monofocal & multifocal IOLs.
2. It provide improvement in visual acuity at intermediate & near distances compared to monofocal IOLs.
3. Poor contrast sensitivity & distance visual acuity than monofocal IOLs.
