Abstract
Manual PRK is a well known procedure. However unpredictable post operative results, post operative corneal haze and pain has created fright amongst the ophthalmologists. Thorough Pubmed and google search revealed various studies which proved TransPRK to be a safe and fast procedure with predictable post operative results. TransPRK has revolutionized the field of refractive surgery. It is a touch-free laser refractive surgery. Unlike the conventional methods of Epi-LASIK, manual PRK and LASEK, TransPRK removes the epithelium without any suction, blade or alcohol that is, without touching the eye. The use of Mitomycin C has reduced the incidence of corneal haze. Also the use of cold BCL and 0.45% ketorolac soaked BCL has reduced the incidence of pain post PRK surgeries. Thus, TranPRK should be considered as an emerging alternative in refractive surgery.
