Abstract

PURPOSE

Teratoma arises form 3 or 2 germinal cell layers, show pattern of growth foreign to its anatomic site. We are presenting a rare case of mature Orbito-cranio-facial teratoma.

METHOD

One month neonate presented with progressive swelling of the left lower lid since birth. Bulging of the lower eyelid with lid eversion, chemosis noted. Microphthalmia with globe displaced superiorly with cataract seen. MRI showed solid cystic lesion coursing posteriorly along the optic nerve to reach the supra-chiamatic, intracranial cystic components with target sign suggestive of plexiform neurofibroma of lower lid. CT showed dysplastic changes in left greater wing of sphenoid.

RESULT

On transconjuctival inferior orbitotomy, multiple greyish tissue with a lobulated mass was excised. HPE showed mature teratoma. After 9 months she had progressive swelling in left cheek suggestive teratoma.

CONCLUSION

Orbital teratoma with intracranial extension with cheek involvement with presentation is rare.
