Abstract
Objective : To study the regional macular structure – function relationship in patients with advanced open angle glaucoma.
Design : Prospective Observational study
Methodology : Comparative & analytical study was done quadrantwise between the functional defect (pattern standard deviation-PSD) in the central 10° fields versus structural parameters in the corresponding macular quadrants using the posterior pole analysis program in Heidelberg – Spectralis OCT machine. Inner retinal layers studied included GCL, GCL+IPL, GCC (GCL+IPL+RNFL)
Result : Good structure-function correlation was found between all the inner retinal layers in the superonasal macular quadrant with the inferotemporal HFA 10-2 field defect (PSD).(p<0.05) Conclusion : Monitoring of the inner retinal layers in the superonasal quadrant may be useful in detecting progression in patients with advanced glaucoma who are unable to perform reliable fields.
