Abstract
Introduction: Cataract is one of the most common cause of blindness in the world especially in diabetics.CME is the most common complication after uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery leading to poor visual acuity. CMT is measured by using SD OCT.This study aims to assess the impact of uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery on the changes of CMT and BCVA in diabetics without DR.
Methodology: A total 200 eyes of the patients who had undergone phacoemulsification surgery were evaluated. Their CMT and BCVA were measured pre-op and on post-op day 7,15,30.
Results: Pearson’s correlation test revealed statistically significant correlations between CMT as well as BCVA changes at day 7, 15 & 30 after surgery than those before surgery except after 30th day (P=0.4155).
Conclusion: our study showed positive and moderate correlations between BCVA and CMT and increase in CMT was associated with a decreasing BCVA (logMAR)
