Abstract
Objective: To compare the level of gonadotropin and sex hormones of Keratoconus patients (KC) with healthy patients, and to evaluate the association with severity of the keratoconus
Methods: 58 KC and 50 Healthy patients were included in this case-control study. Serum LH, FSH, LH/FSH, Testosterone, Estradiol (E2) were measured. Corneal parameters were measured by Pentacam.
Results: LH/FSH ratio is significantly lower in KC (p value < 0.001, T - test), Serum testosterone is lower in KC (p value = 0.004, T - test), Where serum Estradiol is higher in KC patients than healthy patients (p value < 0.000, T - test). There is positive correlation with Kmax with value of serum Estradiol (r = 0.632, p value = 0.009) and Testosteron (r = 0.397, p value = 0.04) [ Pearson correlation]. Conclusion: Hormonal imbalances are associated with keratoconus patients, and it has positive correlation with the severity of the keratoconus disease.
