Abstract

Aim:To study the association of anemia with development of ROP in neonates admitted to tertiary care,Ranchi.

Material & Method:All preterm babies with gestational age<=34weeks & or birth weight<=2kg were screened for ROP in S.N.C.U,under T.A using I.O & 28D lens. Result:Out of 100 babies,none of babies were anemic at the begining of the study.51 babies developed anemia during the study period,out of which 52.9% developed ROP which was statistically significant(p=0.024). Conclusion:Although anemia is not independent risk factor for the development of ROP.However it is a significant risk factor on univariate analysis hence, contributing to the development of ROP along with other risk factors since ROP has multifactorial etiology.
