Abstract

A 1-month-old male infant was brought by parents as they observed white reflex in the left eye of the child.

Right eye fundus showed a yellowish white elevated lesion of 1-disc diameter, skip vasculitis along superotemporal arcade, clinically suggestive of unifocal necrotizing retinitis. Left eye examination showed total cataract with no view to posterior segment.

Right eye congenital ocular toxoplasmosis with contralateral congenital cataract and panuveitis was made.

The infant was started on systemic antiparasitic agents along with antivirals by the paediatrician. Left eye was planned for lens aspiration with primary posterior capsulorhexis and anterior vitrectomy under general anaesthesia.

Right eye lesion healed in 6 weeks post systemic treatment, with the formation of a localized atrophic scar. Child was subsequently lost to follow-up. On telephonic enquiry, it was noted that the child lost his life in the third month. The cause of death could not be explored.
