Abstract

Ocular TB may have a varied presentation ranging from extraocular inflammation like in phlyctenular kerato-conjunctivitis and interstitial keratitis to intraocular inflammation (uveitis). Peripheral ulcerative keratitis (PUK) is an extremely rare presentation in children. TB as a cause of PUK in adults is well known, but PUK in children is extremely rare, with a few anecdotal case reports. This paper describes two cases (11-year-old and 15-year-old) that presented as PUK and later revealed pulmonary TB. In both cases, pulmonary TB was subsequently diagnosed. Both cases responded to topical steroids, and timely anti-tubercular treatment (ATT) helped resolve pulmonary lesions and improved general health in both children and absence of recurrence at 6 months follow-up.
