Abstract

Materials and Methods: In a prospective, randomized study, 45 eyes with medically uncontrolled primary glaucoma, aged 40 years or above underwent combined surgery either with Ologen implant (23) or MMC (22). Primary outcome measure was fall in IOP, defined as complete success if IOP was ≤ 18 mmHg without AGM or additional surgery and qualified success if IOP ≤ 18 mm Hg with AGM.

Results: Complete success at the end of 6 months in Ologen was 82.6% and MMC was 90.9%. At end of six months, fall in IOP in ologen and MMC groups was from 21.91 ± 8.06 to 12.26 ± 1.63 mmHg and 20 ± 9.4 to 11.3 ± 2.2 mmHg respectively, which was statistically significant (P < 0.0001). The blebs in MMC group were more diffuse, elevated and less vascular. The incidence of post-op complications were similar in 2 groups, no sight threatening complications were found in any group Conclusion: In this study, success of combined surgery and complications were similar in both Ologen and MMC groups at end of 6 months.
