Abstract

Introduction: VKH disease is a spectrum which along with ocular manifestations, has neurological, auditory & integumentary findings. Typical ocular VKH is a bilateral panuveitis occurring in young females who present with multifocal exudative detachments. Rarely VKH can have unusual presentations leading to diagnostic dilemma. This study highlights atypical manifestations of VKH.

Methods: Retrospective case review

Results: Atypical presentations included cases occurring in elderly (2), initial presentation as hydrocephalus (1), sequential presentation in either eye (2), unilateral presentation (1), concurrent occurrence with chronic myeloid leukemia (1), cilio-choroidal effusion in retinitis pigmentosa (1), and occurrence in pregnancy (1). In all these situations, good clinical assessment and supportive inputs from investigations like FFA, ICGA, OCT and B-scan helped to arrive at the diagnosis of VKH. Also, all these patients responded very well to steroids supporting the diagnosis.
