Abstract
Aim-To evaluate the role of Systane Hydration (Polyethylene glycol-Propylene glycol+Sodium hyaluronate) versus Soha(Sodium hyaluronate alone) in post operative dryness in patients undergoing LASIK surgery. Methods-60 patients (30 patients in each group) between ages of 18 and 45 years undergoing flap based LASIK procedures are included. Pre operative, one week and four weeks post operative visits are done. Each visit includes DEQ-5 questionnaire, Schirmer’s test, Tear film break up time(TBUT) and corneal staining index. Results- Interim data of 15 patients in each group has shown an improvement of mean DEQ-5 score from 4.29+/-3.43 at week 1 to 2.93+/-2.46 at week 4 and 5.13+/-2.48 at week 1 to 3.43+/-2.59 at week 4 in the Soha and Systane hydration groups respectively. Mean Schirmer’s value, TBUT and corneal staining scores showed improvement in both groups. Conclusion-We conclude that both Systane hydration and Soha are effective in managing post LASIK dry eye. Final data is awaited.
