Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate feasibility of pathergy test in ophthalmology clinic along with image-based interpretation of results through teleconsultation.
Methods: Cases of non-infectious uveitis with clinical suspicion of Behcet’s disease were included. Intradermal dry injection with 26 number needle was done over the forearm. Mobile phone-based images were taken at 24 and 48 hours and sent to an ophthalmologist for interpretation over tele consult.
Results: We evaluated fifty cases of pathergy based on images captured at 24 and 48 hours. Twelve patients were diagnosed with Behcet’s disease, of which nine had positive pathergy tests. The ease of performing pathergy tests in the eye clinic itself with no additional costs, and reduction in patient visits for interpretation of results were highlights of the study.
Conclusion: Pathergy test helps to aid diagnosis in Behcet’s disease when performed in ophthalmology clinic with tele-interpretation of results.
