Abstract

To evaluate the pattern of recovery of binocular single vision and stereopsis after unilateral IOL implantation following trauma in children and to determine the factors influencing its recovery, we included children in the age group of 5 to15 years with unilateral traumatic cataract as a result of both open and closed globe injuries, who have undergone IOL implantation. Return of binocular single vision (BSV) and stereopsis in terms of seconds of arc and its influencing factors which were associated with loss of BSV and stereopsis were analysed. Of the total 58 children, loss of Binocularity and stereopsis was found to be 27.6% and 63.8% respectively. Poor BCVA and presence of strabismus had a statistically significant association with loss of BSV and stereopsis. Factors like Squint, Anisometropia and Amblyopia needs to be evaluated and dealt with dynamically to make sure that the superior aspects of vision like BSV and stereopsis are restored back for better quality of life.
