Abstract
BACKGROUND: Epithelial basememt membrane dystrophy (EBMD) is most common corneal dystrophy seen. It is an anterior corneal dystrophy presenting with blurred vision and/or corneal erosions and/or foreign body sensation or maybe asymptomatic.
Etiology includes autosomal dominant inheritance or point mutation in TGFBI gene on chromosome 5. Risk factors include family history, age, or trauma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: It is a hospital based observational case series report conducted at a tertiary center which included total of 8 patients, all of them belonging to same family,3different generations.
RESULT: Autosomal dominat interitance of EBMD was noted.
On Slit-lamp it can be seen as dot- like epithelial opacities, whorl like fingerprint lines or circumscribed map like pattern. There is formation of microcysts in corneal epithelium with alterations in basement membrane.
