Abstract
PURPOSE:
To study incidence and visual outcomes of Nucleus Drop (ND) in phacoemulsification (PHACO) and manual small incision cataract surgery(MSICS).
METHODS:
Case records of 59 patients who had nucleus drop during phacoemulsification or MSICS between January 2020 to March 2022 were retrospectively analysed. Data collected included the interventions and the visual outcomes.
RESULTS:
ND happened in 38 out of 33810(0.11%) in phaco group while in MSICS group it was 21 out of 32517(0.06%). Visual outcome was 6/12 or better in 33 patients out of 37(89.2%) in phaco group while in MSICS group 4 out of 21(19.1%) had vision of 6/12 or better. Eight patients in the MSICS group and only one in the phaco group were left aphakic.
CONCLUSION:
Though incidence of ND was more in phaco group, visual outcome was better in phaco than MSICS group.
