Abstract

Purpose:To compare the surgical and cosmetic outcome with or without using a tissue expander device after removal of malignant tumors of the upper and lower eyelids.

Methods:Prospective,comparative, interventional study in 30 patients over a period of 18 months.Expander and conventional gr.15 patient in each gr.10/14-French silicon Foley catheter was used for temporary tissue expansion with balloon filled with 10-14 ml normal saline for 3 days.On the 4th day,the balloon was deflated and a Tenzel rotational flap was performed in both the gr.

Results:.Central palpebral fissure 8±1.5mm in 1st wk and 14±1.25 mm end 2nd wk.The mean length of incision in Tanzel with use of an expander was70±8.9 mm without the use of an expander was111.2±9.2 mm

Conclusion:Novel surgical approach utilizing a 10-14 -French Foley catheter as a tissue expander.Marked reduction of incision length and less scar line 63% . Excellent functional and cosmetic outcomes expander group than conventional gr.
