Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate indications, outcomes and recent trends in pediatric KP.Methods: longitudinal retrospective study, 29 eyes of 27 patients who underwent KP-penetrating and lamellar, from 2017 to 2022 at the cornea specialty clinic of a tertiary eye care centre were reviewed.Major postoperative outcomes analysed were Best corrected visual acuity(BCVA), graft clarity and survival and associated complications.Results: Keratoconus(kc) (37.03%) was the most common indication for keratoplasty.48.83% of the cases underwent optical penetrating KP and 34.48% underwent deep anterior lamellar KP.Overall graft survival at 1 year was 93.20% ,75.86% had excellent graft clarity. Graft failure was 6.89 %.BCVA at 1 year >20/63 could be achieved in 64.28%.Conclusion:kc was the main indication for pediatric KP.Penetrating KP is the gold standard,lamellar KP has been an encouraging option in this study.Complications of graft rejection and glaucoma can be managed well to ensure better graft survival.
