Abstract
Purpose:To evaluate CD24 expression in ocular malignancies and to correlate with clinical outcome and survival of patient.Methods:40 patients with various ocular malignancies and 6 age and sex matched healthy controls were included. Immunohistochemistry assay and quantitative RTPCR were done for CD24 expression. Results: High CD 24 expression was observed in 55% tumors and low expression in 45% tumors and all controls.CD24 expression was high in retinoblastoma and uveal melanoma.75% cases of eyelid carcinoma showed high gene expression .OSSN cases had low CD24 expression (mean10.76;SD 1.01) equivalent to their controls. All poorly differentiated tumors were having high CD24 expression . CD24 expression was also correlated with staging and invasiveness of tumor. Conclusions:CD24 expression was high in retinoblastoma, uveal melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma of eyelid.CD24 gene expression was closely correlated with pathological differentiation, tumor progression and invasiveness.
