Abstract
AIM- TO COMPARE THE OUTCOMES IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING CONVENTIONAL PHACOEMULSIFICATION AND FLACS. METHODS – The study is a prospective cross sectional study consisted of 108 patients in each group over the period of 2 years. Parameters such as visual acuity, endothelial cell loss, ultrasound energy , phaco time and complications occurred are measured at post op day 1, 1 week and 1 month . RESULTS- The mean ± SD age in years of the study population were 61.6 ± 10 in FLACS group and 62.0±10 in conventional group. Visual acuity in FLACS group was better than CP group and it is statistically significant at 1 week (BCVA- p<0.024). Endothelial cell loss and corneal edema was more in CP group compared to FLACS (p<0.013). Overall, the use of FLACS resulted in lower ultrasound energy and also utilizes less phaco time for similar grade of cataract as compared to CP group. Incidence of post-operative complication in FLACS was found to be significantly less compared to CP group (p<0.005).
