Abstract

BACKGROUND:Allergic conjunctival disease is caused by derivative of the mast cell known as the histamine.Drugs that are H1 selective antagonist/have mast cell stabilizing property are useful

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:Compare efficacy of Bepotastine 1.5% versus Olopatadine 0.1%

MATERIALS AND METHODS 2 groups receiving Bepotastine and Olopatadine studied in terms of history, visual acuity, torchlight examination, split lamp examination. All the above findings was graded.

RESULT:There was no significant difference in distribution of Itching, Foreign body sensation ,Tearing, Conjuctival hyperemia, Papillary reaction, Corneal involvement , Limbal involvement at Day 0, Day 7, Day 14 and Day 21

CONCLUSION-Both drugs are comparable in treating symptoms and signs of mild to moderate allergic conjunctivitis. Olopatadine is most cost-effective and equally effective as Bepotastine and can be prescribed to patients as initial therapy considering low socio-economic status of majority of patients
