Abstract

Aim: To study the correlation of histopathologically proven lesions with clinical diagnosis in the Oculoplasty Department of a Tertiary Eye Care centre over a 4 year period.Methods: A retrospective analysis of the patients treated for lesions of the eyelids, ocular surface and lacrimal system in the period of Feb 2014 to June 2018 was done. All 46 patients underwent a systematic workup for surgery and lesions were biopsied by a single senior Oculoplasty surgeon.Each followed up for a period of maximum 5 years to a minimum of 1 year. The clinical impression was recorded from the case records and compared with pathological impression of a pathologist.Results: A good correlation existed between the clinical diagnosis and histopathological report despite few surprises in a few cases.Conclusion: Clinician’s impression based on experience is augmented by the correlation with the pathologist’s report. Importance of subjecting all lesions to a pathologist’s examination was substantiated.
