Abstract

Type 2 Macular telangiectasias in the advanced stages have been commonly associated with a subretinal neovascular membrane. However, the association of type 2 Macular telangiectasias with Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy has rarely been reported.

We describe 5 cases of Macular telangiectasia type 2 progressing to the Pachychoroid variants of neovascularization. These patients were diagnosed based on their characteristic clinical features on either OCT, OCT angiography or Indocyanine green angiography. Of these 4 patients demonstrated Polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy, whereas one patient presented with Pachychoroid neovasculopathy. Such an occurence could be an indicator towards the possible progressive alterations in the retinochoroidal vasculature.

The role of choroidal circulation in the etiopathogenesis of Type 2 macular telangiectasias is unclear. This series highlights the need to investigate the role of choroidal vasculature in progression of Type 2 Macular telangiectasia.
