Abstract
Aim
To assess the efficacy of type A botulinum toxin injection in managing ACUTE ACQUIRED COMITANT ESOTROPIA (AACE)
Methodology
Prospective interventional Study done in a tertiary eye care center between 1st June 2020 and 30th June 2021. AACE patients were given the option of Botulinum toxin injection or observation. They were followed up in 2 weeks, one month , 3 months and 6 months . Adverse effects if any also were noted
Results
16 subjects with AACE included in the study ,half in each group. Age ranged from 4 to 32 years. All subjects had 20/20 corrected vision with no significant refractive error which could contribute to AACE. Angle of deviation ranged from 10 to 50 Prism Dioptre . All in group A responded to Botox. 7 of 8 patients were orthotropic & only one had residual deviation . In group B none showed spontaneous resolution in symptoms or deviation
To conclude injection Botulinum toxin highly effective in acute acquired comitant esotropia.
