Methods: A total of 1671 children divided into 3 age groups, group A: 3-5years, group B: 6-9 years, group C: 10-12 years from urban and rural areas were screened. Ambly-opic children’s parents filled a proforma including a family history of amblyopia , antenatal, natal and post-natal birth history and related complications. Results: The prevalence was 1.5%, most prevalent in age group B(p<0.022) .Anisometropic amblyopia is the most common cause (66.66%) followed by strabismic amblyopia(26.66%).Low birth weight(p<0.036) and preterm birth (p<0.045) were found to significant risk factors.
