Abstract
Aim of the study is to compare performance of noncycloplegic PlusoptixS12R photoscreener in paediatric refractive error measurement with cycloplegic retinoscopy(gold standad),non cycloplegic autorefractor and cycloplegic autorefractor. This prospective study included 202 eyes of 101 children aged 3-16 years(study period-18 months). Mean difference in sphere, cylinder, spherical equivalent, axis and pearson correlation coefficient of these parametres were calculated between plusoptix and each of other 3 modalities and were statistically significant. The sensitivity of plusoptix in diagnosing hyperopia was 40%,myopia 93.1%,astigmatism 40% and corresponding specificities were 98.8%,91.6%,99.4% respectively, thus it had good sensitivity and specificity for detecting myopia but hyperopic errors were underestimated.Plusoptix is an user friendly tool for estimating refraction in paediatric group for screening purpose ,however its measurements needs to be refined by cycloplegic retinoscopy.
