Abstract

Due to covid there has been a major increase in digital screen usage by the school going age group. We have come across increasing complaints of irritation, itching, foreign body sensation etc in the pediatric OPD cases.Many of the patients were diagnosed as meibomian gland dysfunction(MGD). This study was designed as a cross sectional study to evaluate the prevalence of MGD amongst 100 consecutive cases in pediatric age group (5 to 17 years) visiting the OPD in a private eye clinic. All cases underwent complete eye check with VA, refraction, Ocular surface analyser with NIBUT, Blink rate, Tear meniscus height, Lipid layer thickness and meibomian gland loss. The time spent on digital screens was noted. The results will be helpful to design a prospective study with a larger population base to understand effect of digital screen on eye health in the pediatric age group.
