Abstract

LASIK surgery is an increasing popular alternative to spectacles. We present a case of a 27 /F with plus power glasses since childhood. On history, at the age of 19 she underwent LASIK for +4.00DS in RE and +2.00DS in LE. Over the next year, she developed a power of +1.00DS in both eyes which then progressed to +4.00DS in LE. This had been causing immense discomfort to the patient over years, despite multiple consults to eye surgeons. When she came to us, we did retinoscopy under complete cycloplegia and a post mydriatic test with diligent subjective refraction. Following this, we gave a +3.25 DS in RE and +3.00DS and +0.50DC at 45 degrees. She is finally comfortable after many years. This shows that a refractive surgery done for the accommodative component of hypermetropia at an early age, has a tendency for regression. Such patients benefit better with a complete cycloplegic refraction with precise subjective acceptance rather than an early refractive surgical intervention.
