Abstract

Abstract: Ichthyosis is a rare clinical entity (1 in 3lakhs).Skin alterations in the eyelids lead to shortening of anterior lamellae consequently resulting in ectropion. Objective: To evaluate Ocular manifestations in patient of collodion baby syndrome ,Material and methods: A 3 day old male baby was admitted in NICU of tertiary care Centre of Jharkhand was examined for ocular involvement . on ocular examination severe bilateral ectropion with severe chemosis of upper and lower lid and congestion of conjunctiva with no involvement of cornea were present. there were peeling of skin around chest and flexure aspect .Patient was managed conservatively by using lubricating E/D, topical antibiotic(tobramycin 0.3%), eye patching with wet gauze at night time, Result: After 15 days there was substantial reduction in chemosis and redness with correction of ectropion. Conclusion: ectropion and other ocular features in collodion baby can be conservatively managed.
