Abstract

Moebius syndrome is rare congenital nonprogressive condition of unclear origin characterized by weakness or paralysis of multiple cranial nerves, most often 6th (abducens) and 7th (facial) nerves which is frequently associated with limb anomalies. Correct diagnosis after birth is challenging for early intervention specially in case where complication sets in. A 10 days old male patient who was born full term at 38 weeks with intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) came to hospital with abnormal facial expressions. The infant was brought with the complain of restricted mouth opening and an expressionless face. There was incomplete closure of the left eyelid during sleep and drooling .Topical lubricants with lid tapping have started and after few days keratitis developed. Patient shifted on systemic and topical antibiotics with multidisciplinary support and counseled the parents about natural history of disease and supportive measure for long term rehabilitation.
