Abstract

A 56-year-old female presented with a history of redness and swelling in her left eye for 6 months. Initially, she had an elevated mass measuring 7.5mm x 6.2mm with a positive rose bengal stain. She was suspected of a case of ocular surface squamous neoplasia and started on topical 1% 5-Fluoruracil(5-FU). After one month of 1st cycle of 5-FU there was a reduction in size by 1×1.5 mm. Another 2 cycles of 5-FU were given in next 2 months with no further reduction in size of mass. Wide excision with conjunctivoplasty with cryotherapy was done and sent for histopathological examination. Immunohistochemistry was positive for pancytokeratin, S100, and CD1a suggestive of a collision tumor with 2 distinct cell lineages – poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma and Langerhans cell histiocytosis. This is the first report of a collision tumor in the conjunctiva, though they have been reported earlier in choroid and eyelids.
