Abstract

Retinocytoma is a rare benign tumor which needs to be differentiated from retinoblastoma (RB). Herein, we describe the OCT features of retinocytoma lesions. The first case was a 3 year child who presented with intermittent white reflex in the right eye since 1 year of age. BCVA was 3/60 OD and 6/6 OS. Fundus examination was suggestive of retinocytoma in both eyes. OCT showed a homogenous hyper-reflective lesion in the retina with a large cystic space, and loss of normal architecture of the retina. No change in lesion was noted until last follow-up at 6 years of age. The second case was an asymptomatic mother of a child with RB who was found to have bilateral retinocytoma on parental screening. BCVA was 6/6 OU. OCT showed an elevated homogenous hyper-reflective lesion in the retina, discontinuity in ELM and ellipsoid zone, and increased calibre of choroidal vessels. Thus, OCT was found to be a useful non-invasive imaging tool for diagnosing retinocytoma and differentiating it from RB.
