Abstract

PURPOSE To report the rare case of paediatric idiopathic intracranial hypertension associated with generalised seizure disorder.

METHOD A 4-year-old girl with a known case of febrile status epilepticus came for follow up one month after the last episode. She doesn’t complain of diminution of vision, headaches or vomiting. On examination, no external structural abnormality detected with BE NSRL(no RAPD). Extra ocular movements are full and free; versions and ductions. EEG report showed abnormal sleep record suggestive of generalised seizure disorder.B-scan BE echo-free VC, disc edema (LE>RE), widening of ON shadow noted in LE(relative to RE). NCT 13mmHg in RE and 16mmHg in LE. CSF analysis normal. CSF opening pressures >370mmH2O. MRI brain B/L papilledema. Blood investigation EBV IgM antibodies positive. She was on T.METAZOLAMIDE 25mg/kg/day and Syp.LEVIPIL 20mg/kg/day.

CONCLUSION uncommon presentation of IIH will help in understanding the pathophysiology and management strategies
