Abstract
METHOD: Visual acuity of patients with open globe injuries were scored according to the OTS System, at 1st post-op day, 1st month and 6th Month. Multiple factors which influence the final visual outcome were studied to know the statistical correlation in predicting the prognosis.
RESULTS: Out of 46 subjects, 80.4% were males and 19.6% females, with mean age of 26.0 (+/- 16.29yrs). Penetrating injuries were seen in 89.1% of total cases and IOFB in 10.9%. Initial Visual acuity of 63% of the subjects was 1/60 to PL, 15.2% of them had 6/12 or better vision. At the end of 6 months, final visual acuity was better than 6/12 in 54.3% and worse than 1/30 in 19.6%. Initial visual acuity (p=0.035), segment involved (p=0.004), OTS score (p=0.034) were statistically significant.
CONCLUSION: In our study, we found that poor initial visual acuity, low OTS score, involvement of posterior segment were found to have statistical correlation in predicting prognostic indicators for poorer visual outcome.
