Abstract
PURPOSE:We report a retained IOFBwhich went unnoticed&got auto-explanted partially through cornea 1month after 1st surgery
METHOD:Open globe injuries maybe associated with retained IOFB,an important cause of blindness in working population.35Y/M industrial worker sustained OS trauma,unaware of mode of injury.It was grievously mutilated eye with corneoscleral tear&without PL.Primary surgery was done by treating Dr.He was recovering well until1day he developed OSpain.Dr noted sharp,metallic IOFB protruding through cornea&referred to us
RESULT:IOFB had auto-explanted partially through the phthisical globe.OS B scan didnt reveal any more IOFB&globe was disorganized with reduced AXL-phthisis.OS FBremoval+corneal wound suturing was done
CONCLUSION:Presence of FB following trauma may not be apparent&can be missed.We report an IOFBwhich went unnoticed by pt&Dr,&got auto-explanted1mth after1st surgery.Special care should be taken with regard to history,diagnostics,surgical planning&management.
