Abstract
Purpose: To study the results of treatment of type 1 ROP. Methods: Review of cases .treated for type 1 ROP with minimum follow up of three months after treatment. Results: One hundred two eyes of 55 infants were treated for type 1 ROP. The mean gestational age at birth and birth weight of infants were 30.1 weeks (range- 27-33) and 1299.7g (range-718-2500g) respectively. Mean post menstrual age at treatment was 35.9 weeks (range 31-46). Thirty six eyes (16 bilateral and four unilateral) were treated with anti VEGF and 66 eyes (30 babies bilaterally and six unilaterally) by indirect laser treatment. Among 20 infants treated by anti VEGF, six babies had bilateral aggressive ROP. 16 of the 36 eyes (44.4%%) treated with anti VEGF and 7 of the 66 (10.6%) laser treated eyes needed laser treatment or anti VEGF injection for recurrence or persistence . All the treated eyes showed full regression of type 1 ROP. Conclusion: Meticulous screening and prompt treatment yields good results.
