Abstract

Ocular morbidity resulting from trauma remains most common cause of uniocular and noncongenital visual loss across the world. Penetrating injury threatens the integrity of the globe and constitutes as an ocular emergency. We wish to report a case of a 21 year old male, who presented at our centre within 2hrs of a Type C, Grade D, Zone 2 injury with a retained metallic foreign body. After a detailed and prompt examination, primary repair was done. The removal of foreign body with lensectomy was also done as a secondary procedure within the week. We report this case to highlight the surgical dilemmas that may be faced by the surgeon and the medicolegal aspects of while dealing with an ocular emergency
