Abstract
Aim- To screen the neonates for changes of ROP and to find out how many neonates required treatment.
Methods- This is a prospective study of neonates during January 2021 and June 2022 (18 months) weighing = 2 Kg at birth and/or gestational age = 34 week screened by ophthalmologist. The disease was classified according to the ICROP classification and treated according to the ETROP guidelines. Result- Out of 2083 screened neonates, 569 had stage 1 ROP and 80 had stage 2 ROP. On analysis, along with birth weight of <2Kg and gestational age of <34 weeks, Respiratory distress, blood transfusions, anemia, sepsis, exposure to oxygen, surfactant administration significantly increased the risk of developing ROP. 27 of screened neonates were given intravitreal Avastin and 92 underwent Laser procedure. Conclusion- ROP being a multi-factorial disease, early detection and treatment of such patients with timely management results in excellent outcome and helps in preventing childhood blindness
