Abstract
Objective: To report a case of left homonymous hemianopia, diagnosed by confrontation field testing by undergraduate medical trainee during clinical posting.
Methods: A 38 year old male presented to Ophthalmology out patient department with complaints of difficulty in seeing on left side of road while driving and difficulty in negotiating left turns, for past 6 months. On performing confrontation field testing, field of vision was observed to be restricted almost upto midline for temporal half of left eye and nasal half of right eye. Automated perimetry confirmed the findings of confrontation test. MRI Brain revealed a posterior occipital lobe meningioma, prompting an urgent referral to neurologist.
Conclusion: This case report highlights the importance of practicing simple bedside procedures like confrontation visual field testing by undergraduate medical students during ophthalmic clinical postings, leading to diagnosis of occult lesions with prompt referrals.
