Abstract

Prospective and retrospective study to analyze refractive and visual outcome in 21 cases of different types of oculocutaneous albinism in children. The study included age range 6-15 years with male:female ratio 11:10 presenting over 3 years. Study had 9 cases of OCA1A, 6 each of OCA1B and OCA 2. Mean LogMar binocular visual acuity was better in females (0.62) than males (0.718). It was better in OCA2 (0.43) than OCA1B (0.58) and OCA1A (0.88). Commonest refractive error was astigmatism (with-the-rule) followed by hyperopia. Astigmatism was common in OCA1B and OCA2, whereas hyperopia was common in OCA1A. The study showed that astigmatism was the commonest refractive error. Visual outcome is best in OCA2, whereas poor in OCA 1A and those with high hyperopia. The results will help to describe refractive errors and visual outcomes in different types of oculocutaneous albinism in Indian children.
